Open Space Volunteers, Colorado Springs
Congrats Graduates!
We have 34 new graduates of this years' crew leader training weekend. They come from almost every Friends Group in the region - including Friends of Ute Valley Park (2), Friends of Fox Run and Friends of Cheyenne Mtn State Park. The City of Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Department, in partnership with the Trails and Open Space Coalition, Rocky Mountain Field Institute and Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado organized and facilitated the training with help from Friends of Red Rock and Friends of the Peak. Thanks to REI and PPCF for supporting TOSC and this project. Thanks to Chick-Fill-A for providing lunch, Bristol Brewing for their "graduation present," and Rockledge Ranch for providing a wonderful space for the training. Graduates are now asked to lead crews on two "certified projects" to get final certification. If you misplace that list, please email

Guardians of Palmer Park are asking Dog-Lovers to show some love for their park. They are focusing on the dog walk are on the upper mesa. Volunteers will also pick up dog and human waste along Lazy Land road. Bring water and gloves and be prepared for a variety of tasks. 9 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. The hard-working "guardians" regularly pick up litter, dog-waste, paint picnic tables, remove grafitti... whatever else the park needs - they are on it!
During the winter months, Guardians of Palmer Park work the first Saturday of the month.
This is a great volunteer opportunity for families and "newbies." The work is not technical or difficult.
