Volunteer Comments

Last fall I spent hours hauling logs in Cheyenne Canon Park. It was hard work and I was sore the next day, but I felt a great sense of accomplishment and bonded with the other volunteers on the project. S.D.

South Slope

The South Slope of Pikes Peak was closed to the public for more than a century. Through the efforts of a number of local conservation groups and citizens, Colorado Springs Utilities agreed to change its policy and allow public access. Before that occurs, trails need to be created and limited infrastructure built to protect the watershed. Trail-building in the summer of 2011 will be led by Friends of the Peak working with Colorado Springs Parks and Recreation. Check out www.fotp.com for more information and a work schedule.
